Since the early 1920’s, Pacific Coach Lines and its predecessor companies have made a major contribution to the historic development of motorcoach passenger and freight services in the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island regions of British Columbia.
Though the early years, the company was primarily known as Pacific Stage Lines. Its founder was Ivor Neil in 1922. In 1932, the company was purchased by BC Electric Rail Company and continued to provide services in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley.
Since BC Ferries was established in 1960, Pacific Coach Lines has been providing daily scheduled service between Vancouver and Victoria. Originally, Pacific Coach Lines pooled its resources with Vancouver Island Coach Lines to provide the daily service. In 1970, the two companies separated. Pacific Coach Lines continued to operate the daily service between Vancouver and Victoria and Vancouver Island Coach Lines focused on providing charter services.
In 1984, Pacific Coach Lines was privatized and was purchased by a number of its employees. The company expanded into the local charter and sightseeing markets and experienced tremendous growth during the Expo ’86 World Fair in Vancouver.
In 1990, Pacific Coach Lines was purchased by its present owners. Pacific Coach Lines continues to contribute to the development of transportation and tourism in British Columbia by carrying over 500,000 passengers a year between Vancouver and Victoria and expanding product and services to better serve the people of British Columbia and visitors from around the world.
Other recent developments by Pacific Coach Lines included:
- Purchase of fourteen (14) Prevost Motorcoaches
- New routes servicing the Vancouver International Airport
- New services including hotel package and tours including Butchart Gardens
- Development of a new bus terminal in Victoria
- Being chosen as the official provider of daily, scheduled bus service from the Vancouver International Airport to Whistler.
